Katrina Kaif‘s biggest hits recently include blockbuster action movies like Dhoom: 3 and Bang Bang!, but the 31-year-old actress might be looking to reinvent herself with a role in director Gauri Shinde’s second film.
Ms Shinde made English Vinglish with Sridevi in 2012 and is now reportedly in talks with Katrina, who the director is eager to cast. If the Ek Tha Tiger actress signs on the dotted line, she will reportedly play a far less glamorous role than cine-goers are used to seeing her in.
Katrina’s current projects - Fitoor and Jagga Jasoos - are both embattled by casting trouble. Fitoor, which is director Abhishek Kapoor’s adaptation of Great Expectations, has had Rekha quit after filming her scenes and be replaced by Tabu. Jagga Jasoos, co-starring Katrina’s boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, has also been plagued by rumours that actor Govinda would be replaced. Govinda himself has said that he has shot his part but will not promote the movie.
Fitoor and Jagga Jasoos, both mired in controversy, will hit screens in 2016. Gauri Shinde’s touch might just revitalise Katrina, just as it did Sridevi who made a wildly successful comeback as a housewife struggling to learn English and find her own identity in the well-received English Vinglish.
