Actor-producer Farhan Akhtar and celebrity hairdresser Adhuna Bhabani have called time on their 16-year marriage.
A statement on behalf of the couple read: “This is to announce that we, Adhuna and Farhan, have mutually and amicably decided to separate. Our children remain our priority and it is immensely important to us, as responsible parents, that they be protected from unwarranted speculation and public glare. We sincerely request that we are given the privacy that is required at this time to move forward in a dignified manner.”
Farhan, 42, and Adhuna, 48, dated for three years before marrying in 2000. They have two children.
Farhan Akhtar, son of writers Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, started his screen career directing 2001′s Dil Chahta Hai. He has acted in the films Rock On!!, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do. He was last seen in this year’s Wazir.
Adhuna Bhabani has collaborated professionally on several of his films.
Farhan Akhtar, co-owner of Excel Entertianment, is currently filming Rock On!! 2 and also produces Shah Rukh Khan‘s film Raees.
