Trouble in Fitoor’s Paradise: Exit Rekha, Enter Tabu

Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor, his ambitious Bollywood adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations, suffered a blow as veteran actress Rekha, who was cast as Miss Havisham, has walked out of the film.

The 60-year-old actress was apparently not happy with the way her role had shaped up in the movie. But there is not much clarity on what prompted the actress to leave the film after most of the shooting was already complete.

Haider star Tabu has replaced Rekha in the film, which centres around Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapoor’s characters.

“Tabu has given some incredible performances in Maqbool, The Namesake and Haider to name a few. She is an actress who has always accepted challenges and I am honoured to have her in my film,” Abhishek said in a statement without commenting on Rekha’s exit.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Shamitabh Co-Stars Rekha, But They Have No Scenes Together

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who stars with veteran actress Rekha in R Balki’s Shamitabh, says they however don’t share screen space in the film.

“We don’t actually come together, it’s part of the sequence and when you see the film, you will understand how it’s portrayed. But, yes it’s always great welcome to have such great luminaries in the film,” he told reporters during the film’s trailer launch.

“Balki keeps saying he wants to design a film with us (Big B and Rekha) but let’s see if somebody comes with interesting script. Why not,” he added.

Shamitabh also features Dhanush and Akshara Haasan among others.

Mr Bachchan says for this film, they have recorded the dialogues first before shooting for the film.

People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has named Prime Minister Narendra Modi and veteran actress Rekha as the hottest vegetarian celebrities.

“I’ve been a vegetarian for most of my life and can endorse the fact that it affects the way you think and perceive life”, Rekha said.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not far behind. He practises yoga to stay fit and dines on animal-friendly vegetarian foods whenever he meets with international delegates.

Revealed: Begum Rekha’s Look in Fitoor

Veteran actress Rekha’s look in an upcoming film Fitoor, which is directed by Abhishek Kapoor, was revealed across social media platforms. The film which is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations will see Rekha in the role of a temperamental begum, based on the character of Ms Havisham.

In the novel, Ms Havisham is a bitter spinster who was left at the altar and continually wears her wedding dress.

In the first look, Rekha is seen sitting gracefully under a tree, in red anarkali and gold net dupatta, designed by fashion maestro Manish Malhotra (maybe her character’s wedding outfit). The scene is shot in Kahsmir’s Nishat Garden.

Evergreen beauty of Bollywood, Rekha, is currently busy promoting her film `Super Nani` on various TV shows.

For this purpose she reached the controversial reality show ` Bigg Boss 8`, where she entertained all and sundry along with host, Salman Khan.

Apparently while enacting a famous dialogue from Salman’s `Dabbang`, Rekha accidentally let out that she is scared of Big B and was quick to rectify seconds later that this referred to as Bigg Boss.

“Thappad se darr nahi lagta, pyaar se bhi nahi lagta, who toh mai bahut de sakti hu, dar lagta hai toh bas `Big B` se,” she said.
