At the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival, Vishal Bhardwaj revealed that Tamil superstar Rajinikanth would be his first choice for the role of King Lear if he decides to make a fourth film on Shakespeare’s tragedies.

Bhardwaj has successfully adapted Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, ‘Othello’ and ‘Hamlet’ into ‘Maqbool’, ‘Omkara’ and ‘Haider’, respectively. “Before making ‘Haider’, I had worked on the script of ‘King Lear’ and visualised Rajnikanth in the lead role. He will be my first choice, if and when I decide to make the film,” Bhardwaj said at the just concluded Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival here.

Distributors’ fast to tarnish Rajinikanth’s image: Lingaa producer

Producer Rockline Venkatesh Saturday asserted that he did not cheat distributors of the Rajinikanth-starrer, Lingaa. He said that if proven guilty, he is ready to give in to the demands of the distributors, who staged a fast in Chennai on January 10, seeking compensation for the heavy losses incurred by them.

Venkatesh told reporters that if “proven guilty of cheating the distributors, I’m ready to accept their demands,” and had not swindled or cheated them by pocketing the profits.

That’s not all, there are plenty of buyers already eyeing the big release. Cos if the film is featuring Rasjinikanth, it’s mostly a mega blockbuster.

According to a trade source in a leading website, “There are huge numbers already in circulation, and it is a matter of time before the deals are signed on the dotted line. 55-60 crore are all set to come in for the satellite rights of the Tamil and Telugu version.

Further, 60-65 crore offer is already there for the taking w.r.t. Tamil theatrical rights in India. Telugu theatrical rights are further fetching them 30-35 crore. In addition, the film is being sold overseas for approx. 30 crore just for the Tamil version. In addition to this all, there are music rights which are with Eros.”

The much awaited Rajinikanth treat Lingaa is just a month away from hitting the theatres. So, why not check out it’s just released theatrical trailer.

The 2:04 minutes trailer shows Rajinikanth doing all that he does with his characteristic style and elan. He kicks, he punches, he smashes a running train, flings goons all over and romances two pretty ladies – Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty.

Lingaa is double treat for Rajini fans as the superstar will be seen in dual avatar in the film. He will be playing a district collector in modern times and an unknown role in a flashback sequence, kept secret by the makers.

Rajinikanth hesitant to join politics, says it’s dangerous

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, who has been invited by various political parties to join them, on Sunday said he was not scared of politics, but hesitant to take the plunge.

“Politics is dangerous and deep. I am not afraid of politics, but hesitant. In politics you need strong roots,” the 63-year-old actor said at the launch of the audio and trailer of his tri-lingual action-thriller ‘Lingaa’.

“I have been moving in the direction shown by god. If he desires that I should come to politics, I will serve the people,” the megastar said.

Rajinikanth’s Lingaa in legal trouble over ‘stolen’ storyline

The Madras High Court on Wednesday admitted a petition alleging that the producer and director of Lingaa starring Rajinikanth had stolen the storyline of another Tamil film and sought a stay on the movie’s release.

The petitioner, K R Ravi Rathinam, alleged that the producer and director had stolen the story of Mullai Vanam 999, being produced by him. He sought a direction to the authorities to constitute a committee to conduct an inquiry and “find the true authorship and ownership of the single storyline” found in both the films.

Admitting the petition, Justice M Venugopal of the court’s Madurai Bench ordered issue of notice to officials, including Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

True to his on screen avatar, superstar Rajinikanth has dubbed for his upcoming Tamil film Lingaa at a lightning speed. He is said to have finished dubbing for it in less than 24 hours, much to the surprise of the film’s crew.

“Rajini sir recently completed dubbing for the film in less than 24 hours. Usually, dubbing takes a few days for most actors as it requires going over few lines in sync with the scenes. But Rajini sir finished dubbing most of his lines in one take,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.
