As of Monday, the film had raked in 35 million yuans (`35 crore) in just three days after its Friday launch.

“This is record-breaking for an Indian film in China,” Gu Wancheng, partner (market strategy) for NPRG, the Chinese firm which introduced the movie to distributors here, told Mail Today.

Gu said prior to PK, the top-grossing Indian film was Dhoom 3. That film took in 19 million yuans through its entire release in China. “PK had made that amount by its second day alone,” Gu said.

Not only that, at the domestic box office, PK has now surpassed every Chinese film currently showing, and is second only to Avengers: Age of Ultron.This weekend, PK even outdid Avengers in terms of occupancy, taking the number one spot with 25 per cent. The film currently has 18,000 shows in China.

Significant portions of Hirani’s latest directorial, which has seen a string of controversies, have been shot at Ravi Shankar’s Art of Living Foundation ashram in Bengaluru.

The director and the makers are thankful to Ravi Shankar for understanding the importance of the subject and letting them shoot the film in the ashram premises.

According to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) member Satish Kalyankar, he had raised the objection over some scenes before the board’s CEO but the latter paid no heed to his concerns.

Some members of the censor board Monday visited the ashram of Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati of Dwarakpeeth who has sought the Rajkumar Hirani directed film “PK” should be banned for having hurt sentiments of some in the Hindu community.

“Our job is to certify. That we have done. We are not a censorship board. Political or ideological groups may advice their followers not to watch it,” Leela Samson told PTI when asked for a reaction to a series of protests across the country against PK.

Activists of right-wing outfits, including Bajrang Dal, have been protesting demanding a ban on the film for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

There have been protests in several parts of the country including in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. The film’s director Rajkumar Hirani rejected the allegation that it was disrespectful to Hinduism and said it upheld the true spirit of religion.

At least 20 members of the right-wing organisation, led by city unit chief Jwalit Mehta, targeted City Gold and Shiv theatres on Ashram Road this morning and smashed ticket windows and tore off posters of the film.

The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is a satirical take on godmen and superstitions. Policemen from Navrangpura station along with Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Virendrasinh Yadav rushed to the spot, but the attackers had fled before that, police said.

Leela Samson, chairperson of Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC), said the board will not remove any scenes from the film as it has already been released.

PK, which hit theatres on December 19, stirred controversy after the religious outfits staged protests, demanding a ban on the movie and removing the scenes to ensure communal harmony.

“Every film may hurt religious sentiments of somebody or the other. We can’t remove scenes unnecessarily because there is something called creative endeavour where people present things in their own way. We have already given certificate to PK and we can’t remove anything now because it’s already out for public viewing,” she told PTI.

Leading daily DNA quotes the actor as saying, “We respect all religions. All my Hindu friends have seen the film and they have not felt the same. Even Raju is Hindu, so is Vinod and so is Abhijat. In fact 99% of the crew was Hindu. No one would have done such a thing”.

“I think that this is a democracy where everyone has their own opinions and I respect everyone’s viewpoints, their feelings and their opinions. Having said that, I don’t think that any of us are talking about any one religion in particular. I think there have been utmost care taken in telling the story in a sensitive matter and not a sensational matter,” he adds.

At an event to promote the film here, when Anushka was asked about Virat’s reaction to PK, she said “He said that he loved this film.”

Her co-star Aamir couldn’t help but pitch in by saying: “I’ll tell you (media persons) what he (Virat) said exactly. He said that he liked PK more than 3 Idiots!”

Then came in Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the producer of both the films.

Pulling Anushka’s leg, he said “Virat has also said that she (Anushka) is his World Cup win.”

The actor-filmmaker raised eyebrows when he shed clothes for the poster of his forthcoming film PK.

“If I would have been asked to go nude for a film two or three years ago, I might have rejected it saying, ‘I won’t be able to do it,” Aamir said here Tuesday at the press conference of PK.

“Obviously, we all would not like being without clothes. But when I heard this script, it looked so natural to me that I didn’t even feel it would look awkward or uncomfortable (to go nude on-screen),” he added.
