“There are women who are pregnant or are dealing with post pregnancy weight, or teenagers who are obese, from across the world. They want to know my story. I am a fat-to-fit story,” Parineeti told reporters at a song launch event in Mumbai. Parineeti made a comeback of sorts with the Dishoom song Jaaneman Aah which released on Tuesday.

“I have struggled with my weight. I was big and unhealthy, not chubby. I took it upon myself to work towards this. There was pressure of Bollywood to bring me on right part,” she added.

The 27-year-old actress now maintains a healthy diet and has a healthy lifestyle.

“I am fit now. People need to be fit no matter what size they are. I was big and unfit. There are dancers in New York who are big but flexible. It took me a year and half to reach here,” said Parineeti.

The Daawat-e-Ishq actress was away from the screen after her 2014 movie Kill Dil and now post her weight-loss break, she is all charged up.

“Of course, I missed being on screen. When I entered the film industry I did four films back-to-back as everyone was used to seeing me on screen. I am not filmy as these guys. I come from a different discipline and I have lived my life in a different way. I needed that emotional break. I wanted to settle down,” Parineeti told reporters.

Parineeti feels the break helped her sort out her priorities.

“It’s a different world for me. I come from a world of banking and academics and I had to be in front of camera all the time and had the pressure. I just wanted to sort out some things,” added Parineeti.

The Hasee Toh Phasee actress is glad that she can wear clothes of her choice now. “Now I have this dedication and concentration on my work because of the break. I wanted to work on my body, I am 27 years old. I wanted to wear shorts and better clothes and not worry about anything. This one year break was amazing,” she said.

Parineeti’s upcoming film is Meri Pyaari Bindu, co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana.

The actress has suddenly become a favourite of luxury clothing brands and also earned numerous style awards, courtesy her new toned figure.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Parineeti, referring to Bollywood, wrote: “Thank god I became an actor and had that pressure! I am able to achieve what I couldn’t achieve otherwise.”

The Kill Dil star also shared an old picture of herself saying she is glad her journey to fitness has inspired girls and women across the world.

Parineeti will next be seen in Meri Pyaari Bindu, co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana.

The 27-year-old actress, who will be seen on big screen after approximately two years, is preparing hard for her role.

Parineeti will also sing for the first time in Meri Pyaari Bindu. The actress, who made her debut in Bollywood with Maneesh’s Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, was last seen in YRFs 2014 film Kill Dil co-starring Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar.

Priyanka has established herself as a singer with tracks like In My City, Exotic and the title track of Dil Dhadakne Do.

“That is a great idea, we should do it,” she added.

Priyanka, who is basking in the success of her American television series Quantico, will be next seen in Hollywood film Baywatch alongside actors Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Parineeti said that for the sisters to sing number together, they first “have to be in the same country”.

For now, Parineeti is all set to play an aspiring actress in Meri Pyaari Bindu, which is set in Kolkata and also features actor Ayushmann Khurrana.

The film is directed by first timer Akshay Roy and has been produced by Maneesh Sharma.

Does she feel more confident post her weight loss?

“Yes, for sure. I do feel more comfortable in different clothes. I used to be conscious about how I am looking because I wasn’t confident about my body. But I do feel more confident as compared to earlier,” Parineeti told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

But the 27-year-old actress added that she is “still a work in progress” as it “will still take a couple of months to completely get into the shape” that she wants.

Parineeti, who has featured in films like Ishaqzaade and Daawat-e-Ishq, said that: “I think being your slimmest and fittest, whatever your body type may allow, is important because it helps you to do a variety of things on screen. I think if you are not your fittest self, then it limits you in the characters which you play.”

However, being a celebrity, didn’t she get affected by or feel stifled by brickbats and criticism that came her way even before and after her weight loss?

“Not at all. I think we are in a great position, where anything that we do reaches out globally and people all over the world get to see it, comment on it and give their opinion on it. I think it’s a privileged position to have,” said Parineeti.

She stressed that getting a “100 percent positive review” on any aspect is not possible.

“Good and bad will always happen. You can never have a 100 percent positive review on anything and that’s the beauty of this industry. It depends on the millions of different people. They will have different opinions on that one thing you have done. So, I feel it’s a privileged position I am in,” added Parineeti.

Would she like to be part of the small screen as well?

“Totally. I think the kind of a person that I am, I love interacting with people and doing different things. I think that I will be a good fit on TV. But I would wait for something really exciting to come up,” said Parineeti.

Parineeti, who has brothers Shivang and Saraj, will be seen on TV show Mission Sapne, wherein she will help 13-year-old Bhavna Suthalya’s character to secure a better future.

“I grew up with two brothers but my parents never subjected to any kind of discrimination and made sure that I get best education,” Parineeti said in a statement.

“I believe that girls and boys should be treated as equals and we need to work towards eradicating all the discernment that still exists. The men of the house should stand up and take the responsibility of educating every single woman of their family thereby bringing about a major change in the society,” she added.

Bhavna dreams of becoming a cop in order to bring stability in her family. Her parents Bhanu and Archana are visually challenged and sell books and stationary material in local trains. To help her financially, Parineeti will be seen selling books and stationary at a suburban mall to earn daily wages for Bhavna and her family. The 27-year-old actress was reportedly approached to play the female lead in the film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. It was announced last week that Anushka Sharma has bagged the role in the Yash Raj Films’ sports drama.

Parineeti had even tweeted recently, clarifying that she was not doing Sultan. “I ignored it (rumours) for quite some time and so I tweeted about it. I am not doing Sultan as the film was never offered to me. Now, Anushka is doing the film and it is great,” Parineeti told reporters.

The actress also denied reports that she may be seen in a YRF film opposite actor Aditya Roy Kapur. “It is a crazy rumour. We both are busy,” she said.

The Ishaqzaade actress said she is working in a film but did not reveal much about it. “There is something. But I can’t announce. We will announce it whenever we are ready. The producers will do that,” she said.

Talking about her look in the calendar, she said, “I am just posing and not eating. But now I work out. I have worked on my fitness this year, so I thought it would be fun doing something with food. I did not want it to be high fashion.”

The actress said she now feels a little wary while being photographed as there is a pressure of being scrutinised.

“The picture has to be good as today there is too much scrutiny. Everything relating to hair, make-up has to be good. It is nerve wrecking to give pictures today,” she added.
