After he gave the biggest flop of his career with Kochadaiiyaan, we thought superstar Rajinikanth will make a remarkable comeback with Lingaa. It is almost indigestible but Rajini-Sonakshi Sinha starrer fell flat again on the first week of it’s release.

Directed by K.S. Ravikumar, Lingaa released on Rajinikanth’s birthday on December 12, 2014 hoping to make a difference at the box office. But touted as one of the biggest release of 2014, Lingaa disappointed.

Distributors’ fast to tarnish Rajinikanth’s image: Lingaa producer

Producer Rockline Venkatesh Saturday asserted that he did not cheat distributors of the Rajinikanth-starrer, Lingaa. He said that if proven guilty, he is ready to give in to the demands of the distributors, who staged a fast in Chennai on January 10, seeking compensation for the heavy losses incurred by them.

Venkatesh told reporters that if “proven guilty of cheating the distributors, I’m ready to accept their demands,” and had not swindled or cheated them by pocketing the profits.

Lingaa distributors go on fast, seek Rajinikanth’s intervention

A group of film distributors, who have decided to go on fast demanding compensation for the loss incurred in Rajinikanth’s latest release Lingaa, clarified on Thursday they’re doing so in order to bring their plight to his notice.

Most distributors claimed to have suffered heavy losses since they had paid high prices for the film.

“We plan to go on fast as planned. We’ve suffered huge losses due to Lingaa, roughly about 70 percent of our investments. Through our fast, we seek the intervention of Rajinikanth. This is not against him. We feel cheated and he should know this,” distributors of the film said.

Deposit Rs.10 crore for Lingaa release, court tells producer

The Madras High Court bench here Thursday allowed the release of superstar Rajinikanth-starrer “Lingaa” Friday on the condition that its producer Rockline Venkatesh deposit Rs.10 crore in the court.

According to the order, Rs.5 crore needs to be submitted in cash and the rest in bank guarantee by Friday noon to the court registrar.

Justice V. Dhanapalan and Justice V.M Velumani passed the order on a writ appeal filed by aspiring filmmaker K.R. Ravi Rathinam, who accused the makers of “Lingaa” of stealing his script.

‘Lingaa’ plagiarism case: Rajinikanth files caveat application

Superstar Rajinikanth on Monday (December 8) filed a caveat application to prevent the Madras High Court bench from passing any interim order in the “Lingaa” case without hearing his stand. He filed the application anticipating a writ appeal by aspiring filmmaker K.R. Ravi Rathinam, who had alleged the makers of “Lingaa” of stealing his script. This was after the refusal of a single judge to order a probe into the alleged theft.

According to a trade source in a leading website, “There are huge numbers already in circulation, and it is a matter of time before the deals are signed on the dotted line. 55-60 crore are all set to come in for the satellite rights of the Tamil and Telugu version.

Further, 60-65 crore offer is already there for the taking w.r.t. Tamil theatrical rights in India. Telugu theatrical rights are further fetching them 30-35 crore. In addition, the film is being sold overseas for approx. 30 crore just for the Tamil version. In addition to this all, there are music rights which are with Eros.”

Rajinikanth’s Lingaa in legal trouble over ‘stolen’ storyline

The Madras High Court on Wednesday admitted a petition alleging that the producer and director of Lingaa starring Rajinikanth had stolen the storyline of another Tamil film and sought a stay on the movie’s release.

The petitioner, K R Ravi Rathinam, alleged that the producer and director had stolen the story of Mullai Vanam 999, being produced by him. He sought a direction to the authorities to constitute a committee to conduct an inquiry and “find the true authorship and ownership of the single storyline” found in both the films.

Admitting the petition, Justice M Venugopal of the court’s Madurai Bench ordered issue of notice to officials, including Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
