It’s Sad: Dibakar Banerjee on Pakistan’s Baby Ban

In the wake of Pakistan banning Akshay Kumar’s Baby, filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee says such incidents in India and Pakistan are “sad”.

Dibakar also said both neighbours will end up paying a “heavy price” if these incidents continue.

“I can’t comment on the film. I haven’t seen it. I can’t comment if the ban is justified or not. All I can say is it’s sad.

Whatever is happening in India and Pakistan is not only sad, but also foolish,” Dibakar told IANS on Friday.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the movie revolves around an undercover unit, formed to keep an eye on the movements of terrorist groups and to nix their plans to disrupt peace and harmony.

The film also stars Rana Daggubati, Danny Denzongpa and Taapsee Pannu and released in India on Friday. The film also features Pakistani actor Mikaal Zulfiqar and Rasheed Naz.

Baby Ahead of Dolly Ki Doli in Box Office Race

Within three days of its release, Akshay Kumar’s Baby has grossed over Rs 35 crore, a figure much ahead of the over-Rs.10 crore mark that Sonam Kapoor‘s Dolly Ki Doli has managed.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, Baby earned Rs.36.07 crore in just three days, read a statement.

Also starring Anupam Kher, Rana Daggubati, Danny Denzongpa, Kay Kay Menon and Taapsee Pannu, the movie revolves around an undercover unit, formed to keep an eye on the movements of terrorist groups.

On the other hand, Dolly ki Doli, produced by Arbaaz Khan, has garnered Rs.10.75 crore in three days.

Directed by Abhishek Dogra, Dolly Ki Doli features Sonam Kapoor, Pulkit Samrat and Rajkummar Rao, and revolves around a con woman who robs her grooms on the wedding night and runs away.

Baby Director Neeraj Pandey Says He is Drawn to Realistic Stories

Real-life stories have often provided plot points to director Neeraj Pandey, be it A Wednesday, Special 26 or his upcoming film Baby, which is about a spy mission.

The director says it is just a coincidence that he explores such subjects in his movies.

“I don’t know. It could be because dramas are set in those kind of spaces. It’s more like a coincidence. I like making films on realistic issues,” Neeraj told PTI.

The filmmaker said the script of Baby, starring Akshay Kumar, was there in his mind from quite sometime.

“The story was there in my mind for sometime. I started working on the story after finishing my novel Ghalib Danger.

After impressing his fans and critics with his army officer act in Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty in 2014, Bollywood’s action star Akshay Kumar is once again broaching the subject of terrorism in his upcoming film Baby. He says the intent is to discuss these issues “openly” to spread awareness.

If Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty was about sleeper cells, Baby revolves around a story about how the common man in India faces a threat from terrorists and how the government tries to prevent such attacks.

In an interview IANS, Akshay opened up about the movie and his action avatar.

“I’m playing an undercover agent in the film. We are a group named Baby, which includes Anupam Kher, Rana Daggubati and a few other actors.”

Akshay is happy with the end result of the film, directed by Neeraj Pandey, who had helmed A Wednesday, a movie that was about the impact of terrorism on the common man.

The original action star of Bollywood—Akshay Kumar, does everything in style. The macho man, who was last seen in ‘Entertainment’, is now all geared up to welcome the new year with his upcoming film ‘Baby’.

Akshay Kumar plays the honest, patriotic Intelligence officer in filmmaker Neeraj Pandey’s new film ‘Baby’. The film is based on terrorism and also features Rana Duggabati, Tapsee Pannu, Anupam Kher and Kay Kay Menon. The first trailer of the film was recently released online. It is scheduled to release in theaters in January 2015. This Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey’s second film together, they have earlier worked together in ‘Special 26′.
