In March, Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan ended weeks of speculation about the status of their marriage with a joint statement to DNA.

“The truth is, we have taken a break, but that doesn’t mean people can presume, assume and speculate things of such malicious nature. We are taking out time to figure out our lives,” read the statement.

Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan married in 1998 and are parents to a son. Malaika has appeared in several films, like Dabangg, made by her husband and brother-in-law Salman Khan.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan, 50, has still not apologised for having compared himself to a “raped woman” when asked about filming Sultan. He failed to appear before the Maharashtra Women’s Panel for the second time on Thursday.

He has been given a “third and final” chance to appear on July 14, failing which he may face an FIR or a police complaint.

Salman Khan has also been summoned by the National Commission For Women tomorrow.

Sultan released on Wednesday.

Mumbai Mirror quotes an unnamed ‘friend’ of the couple as saying: “This statement is only to try and salvage his tarnished reputation. There is too much pressure on him from his family to separate with dignity.”

The ‘friend’ also told Mumbai Mirror that Salman, 50, has been ordered to stay out the matter by father Salim Khan and that Malaika’s family are none too happy with Arbaaz: “Malaika’s sister, Amrita (Arora Ladak) is also furious over Arbaaz’s insistent efforts to reconcile with her sister, despite her repeatedly making it clear that Malaika no longer wants to be a part of the Khan family.”

Malaika, 42, and Arbaaz, 48, married in 1998 and have a son together. Malaika has starred in movies like Housefull 2, Welcome and Dabangg. Her husband Arbaaz produced and starred in Dabangg while brother-in-law Salman played the protagonist in the movie.

Arbaaz, who produced Dabangg (2010) and then directed and produced its sequel, is waiting for his brother, actor Salman Khan – the lead actor of both films – to finish all his pending assignments.

“It (Dabangg 3) is in talks. Salman and I will sit sometime when he is through with his movies and all,” Arbaaz told reporters at a book launch.

“We will ideate on the script and it may take one or two years,” he added.

Arbaaz told reporters in a group interview: “It’s become a trend now, but I put item songs in my films depending on the subject of the film. Maybe, I will not put an item number in my next film. You never know.”

“It all has to go well with the subject. We call it as item number. I don’t like these tags. For me, music plays an important role,” he added.

Arbaaz is currently busy promoting his next production ‘Dolly Ki Doli’ featuring Sonam Kapoor in the lead.
