Reconnecting with Australian cinema and watching the buzz that is Bollywood at the Melbourne Film Festivals
When you hear that Melbourne is one of the most liveable cities, believe it. I am in the cultural capital of Australia to catch as much cinema and as many filmmakers as I can, and I amass plenty of movies and chat, but what I come away with is, overwhelmingly, just how nice the people are, and how engaged they are with the happenings in their city.
There is, literally, a problem of plenty during these three August weeks when both the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM, 10-22 August) and the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF, 3-20 August) run, practically concurrently.

The new addition to the Fanney Khan star cast is the birthday boy Rajkummar Rao. While the National award-winning actor is busy thanking all for their wishes, he must be excited about sharing screen space not just with former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan but also Anil Kapoor in the film.
Is it a birthday gift for all Rajkummar Rao fans? It seems so. The new addition to the Fanney Khan star cast is the birthday boy Rajkummar. Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra welcomed him as part of the cast of his production venture Fanney Khan.
While the National award-winning actor, who was last seen in Bareilly Ki Barfi, is busy thanking all for their wishes, he must be excited about sharing screen space not just with former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan but also Anil Kapoor in the film. Actress Shilpa Shetty’s son Viaan’s grand birthday party on Saturday made way for several Kodak-worthy moments. Shilpa shared one such photograph starring her husband Raj Kundra, the birthday boy, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her four-year-old daughter Aaradhya, on Instagram on Sunday night.

In the caption, the 40-year-old actress wrote that Ash and Shilpa love their new role as ‘mamma:’

Shilpa Shetty, star of films like Dhadkan, Phir Milenge and Life in a… Metro, was last seen in 2014′s Dishkiyaoon. Aishwarya’s new movie Sarbjit, in which she stars as Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur, released on May 20.

Today’s Big Release: Aishwarya Rai’s Sarbjit

Bollywood film Sarbjit starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha is all set to hit the screens today.

The film is Aishwarya’s second after her five-year hiatus after flop film Jazbaa, which released last year. The trailer of Sarbjit promises a new innings for the 42-year-old actress. Sarbjit is directed by Omung Kumar, who had earlier directed Mary Kom with Priyanka Chopra in the lead.

Sarbjit chronicles the life of Indian farmer Sarabjit Singh (played by Randeep) who was killed in a Pakistani jail. It also tells the story of his sister Dalbir kaur (played by Ash), who leaves no stone unturned to get justice for her brother.

From the Hollywood section X-Men: Apocalypse starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac and Nicholas Hoult is releasing today.

Meanwhile, Brahmotsavam, starring Mahesh Babu, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu is releasing in Tamil and Telugu today. Dalquer Salmaan’s Malayalam film Kammatipaadam will also hit the screens today. Tamil film Maruthuand Kannada film U Turn also release today.

Gippy Garewal’s Kaptaan is also representing regional cinema.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Selfie on the Sets of Sarbjit in Punjab

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is currently busy shooting for Omung Kumar’s biopic Sarbjit, features in a picture from the sets, that has been doing the rounds of social media on February 24.

Aishwarya, who stars as Sarbjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur in the movie, is reportedly, filming in Attari, a village in Punjab. She is seen posing for a selfie with a Border Security Force jawan in this picture.

Earlier in February, the movie had released a picture of Randeep Hooda, who plays the titular role, along with the first look of the 42-year-old actress on social media.

Sarbjit tracks the story of the eponymous Indian prisoner, who died in a Pakistani jail. The movie, which also stars Richa Chadha as his wife, releases on May 19.

Salman Khan Dodges ‘Jazbaati’ Question About Aishwarya and Bigg Boss

Actor Salman Khan dodged a query about his former girlfriend, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s special appearance on his show during a press event for upcoming TV show Big Boss 9.

Salman was asked if Aishwarya was expected to make an appearance on the upcoming reality show to promote her film Jazbaa.

“This had to be the last question before the PR takes away the mike. Please clap for this madam. Kya Jazbaati sawal laai ho aap (What an emotional question you have asked),” Salman, 49, said.

The actor later started humming the lyrics of Aate jaate jo milta hai tumsa lagta hai from his 2000 film Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega in which he starred opposite Preity Zinta.

Salman and Aishwarya broke up in 2001. The actors have reportedly avoided each other since then.

The trailer of filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s action film Jazbaa, which marks the comeback of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, will be launched on Independence Day on August 15.

Mr Gupta, who has managed a casting coup with established actors like Irrfan Khan, Atul Kulkarni, Jackie Shroff, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Shabana Azmi along with Aishwarya, shared the news on Twitter.

With 14 years on the Cannes red carpet behind her, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is one of the biggest celebrities at the film festival, greeted annually by fans shrieking her name as she navigates the flashbulb-popping stretch to the Palais de Festivals. However, in what must have been a sobering reality check for the star, she found herself unrecognized and almost turned away from an event on the sidelines of the film festival this year. And, horror of horrors, the location she was almost turned away from was the India Pavilion, run jointly by FICCI and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

In addition to her duties for L’Oreal, who she has represented at Cannes for almost 15 years now, Aishwarya was showcasing her work-in-progress film Jazbaa at Cannes last month. Arriving for a Jazbaa-related event at India Pavilion, Aishwarya’s car was barred by security because it was missing the required security document.

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s team has responded to an open letter from a group of activists charging her with appearing in an allegedly racist advertisement. The advertisement for Kalyan Jewellers appeared in a newspaper on April 17 and shows Aishwarya reclining under a parasol held over her head by what the letter describes as ‘a dark-skinned slave-boy.’ The 41-year-old actress is a brand ambassador for Kalyan Jewellers.

In a statement on behalf of the actress, her publicist suggested that Aishwarya was not involved in the final image that appeared in the newspaper.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Jazbaa to Feature Cameo by Abhishek

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s action film Jazbaa is special in many ways. It not only marks the comeback of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but also features her husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan in a special appearance.

The film’s director took to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the news.

The couple showed their chemistry in the film Guru, which garnered plaudits. And in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan, which failed to sizzle at the box office.

Earlier, Mr Gupta used the social media platform to announce the release date of the film which also stars Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi, Abhimanyu Singh and Atul Kulkarni. Jazbaa film is set to release on October 9.
